Question: Mechanic broke his tool in my engine, now wants me to pay to fix it.
My 8th cylinder spark plug blew out of my engine and ruined the threads. I took it to a repair shop to tap out the threads. They said it would be an hours labor. They called me later to say they had broke off their tap inside the head and could not get it out. My only option was to pay $2500 to have them remove the head and send it out to get the tap out, or pay $3200 for a brand new head.
I do not believe I should have to pay to fix their mistake. It was their man, their tool and their mistake. I went to the local Ford dealership and another garage and both said I should not be responsible.
Who is responsible and what are my options?
