Question: Loss of power (not electrical) while driving.

I was driving at 70mph and felt a loss of power under the pedal. No loud noise, no smoke, no jerking, felt as if the transmission went out, but when pressing on the gas, there was still some power. Upon pulling over and listening to the motor there was what sounded like a ticking. I had someone follow me back where I had left (about 4 miles) never going over 50 mph and even that was brief. With the radio off I could here the ticking which increased speed with the RPM's, yet did not increase volume or sound any worse. It does appear to be motor related, yet the 4 mile drive back it ran fine (with the addition of the noise however). All belts are running fine, didn't sound like a clanking, and with the drive back doesn't seem to be a thrown rod, I am at a loss. Thank for any help or ideas.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
