Question: I received a P0401 code, and have replaced the egr valve, what more can I do?

Ford Taurus 1999 - P0401 check engine light came on .Replaced the EGR valve, but the light is still coming on. I have reset the computer, driven about 10 miles and the check engine light comes back on. What else can I do?

P0401 code is for insufficient EGR flow. This does not necessarily mean the EGR valve is bad. It could mean that the EGR ports are clogged with carbon buildup. I had this recently occur on my Honda and was able to repair it in about 2 hours. I had to purchase a $6.00 gasket and a can of carb cleaner. I cleaned out the soot and checked the operation of the EGR valve and the car idles much better.
